Utah Small Business Summit: Laura’s Recap

Architectural Nexus’ Laura Clayton* recently presented at the 2nd Annual Utah Small Business Summit held at the Salt Palace Convention Center in Salt Lake City, Utah.  During her break-out session, Laura shared with her audience the positive impact Architectural Nexus has had on the local business community.  Architectural Nexus actively collaborates with its business neighbors.  Nexus firmly believes in sustaining the local economy.

*Laura Clayton, AIA Associate, LEED AP BD+C, SEED has played an integral role in community outreach, interdisciplinary collaboration, and strategic planning while working with Architectural Nexus. She believes that vibrant communities are the result of strong, collaborative, integrated design and promotes this strategy within the firm and community. She developed and implemented a community outreach network at Architectural Nexus as a tool to promote community/professional interaction and to implement crowd-sourcing for citizens groups. She strives to create more sustainable, livable communities and environments at all scales, integrating sustainable concepts whenever possible and appropriate. As an active member of the AIA Committee on the Environment and the Utah Chapter of the USGBC, she is also Co-chair of the 21st& 21st Business District and has worked extensively with the East Bench Citizens Group as well other community organizations in Salt Lake City to advocate and implement positive change in the built environment. Beyond being a LEED BD+C Accredited Professional, Laura has also received SEED training and certification (Social Economic Environmental Design) which encompasses social, economic, and cultural concerns as an integral part of the larger sustainability movement.

**Jessica Thesing, Small Business Manager for the Economic Development Department of Salt Lake City, invited Laura to present at the 2nd Annual Utah Small Business Summit.  Jessica heads up neighborhood business district programming and small business relations initiatives. She is also the lead organizer of the Annual Neighborhood Business Conference and serves as the City’s liaison for small businesses.
